Shift Learning was set up in 2001, as Shift Media, by Jane Powell and Claire Cameron. Helene Moran  was made co-director in 2007, Jack Wilson in 2010.

Shift Learning is a consultancy specialising in the education and lifelong learning sector. Our expertise spans a range of interrelated markets, from school-level education through to medical, academic and professional development, allowing us to make connections between developments in different but related sectors, producing genuine insights for our customers.

We have particular expertise in conducting research with professional learners, employers and those in the teaching and learning professions. We are also experts at providing evidence-based consultancy solutions for producers of content, resources, training and qualifications. Combining research with our strong sector knowledge (including technology related areas such as digital publishing and learning) we can advise on new business models, product types, platform and content development, as well as offer detailed customer focused marketing plans to help our clients to create forward-looking products and strategies.

Our clients include world-class publishers, awarding organisations, scholarly and professional societies, content and platform developers and institutions who want to develop new strategies based firmly on evidence, and to advance their understanding of the needs of educators, librarians, parents, students, medical and other professionals, academics and other educational leaders and decision-makers.

We’re flexible and we are not afraid to say when something simply isn’t working. Our experience has shown that sometimes, despite the best prior evidence, sometimes when a methodology or process isn’t working its best to suggest additional no cost solutions to ensure we get to the bottom of the brief.

We are passionate about great client relationships, committed and always available. Highly flexible, we believe in collaborative working, with high levels of client monitoring of a project and close client contact with regular updates both in person and through our Basecamp project management system.

We have our own market research viewing room , called the London Viewing Room, located at our offices in Islington. The client and respondent rooms are connected with a one-way mirror and contain the latest technologies allowing you to observe and record your focus group or user testing with ease.
