Research in Education: Schools

We are particularly proud of our work with schools and the connections we have made with educators and teachers, both in the UK and internationally.

Our approach

  • Our experience of working with teachers at primary, secondary and FE level means that we know how to conduct market research in education across all stages of the curriculum.
  • Our research in education has helped us build a reliable network of contacts across the sector, which we use to recruit quality participants for focus groups, interviews and other market research projects.
  • We understand the wide range of stakeholders within schools and have conducted in-depth interviews with many head teachers, head of departments, school governors, educational business managers and subject leaders. Our success in recruiting these hard-to-reach groups provides real value for our clients.

Our projects

  • Recent curriculum changes have made it more important than ever for educational organisations to understand teachers’ needs at all levels of the school system. Much of our market research in education has been for educational publishers and awarding organisations who want to understand current teaching practices, or develop their products and qualifications with input from teachers and students.
  • Shift Learning have also conducted a range of projects for local authority clients, looking at learner experiences in school as well as the choice decisions of parents.

Recent clients have included:

Qualitative research

Our focus groups provide a relaxed forum for teachers and students to discuss their experiences, and are led by moderators with a strong understanding of the education sector. Similarly, our telephone interviews, online focus groups and recruitment processes are carried out by experienced researchers who can conduct productive conversations with educators and school leaders, generating real insight for our clients.

Quantitative research

Shift Leaning have worked on a large number of quantitative projects within the schools sector, particularly for educational publishers. Our research in education can be particularly useful for establishing the demand for a new product or qualification amongst teachers and educators. Alternatively, the research in education can be used to gain a broader understanding of a particular issue by conducting surveys with a larger number of education professionals.
