Good Business content development case study

Email Print PDF

Our work for Good Business consisted of route to market and curriculum research plus content development for the J8 project.

Junior 8 (J8) is a joint project of UNICEF, Morgan Stanley and the country with the presidency of the G8. The J8 Programme gives young people from around the world the chance to voice their opinions on global issues and raise their awareness of their role as global citizens.

The J8 Summit is a children and young people's version of the G8 meeting and takes place parallel to the G8 Summit. Nearly 2,000 young people from across the G8 took part in the J8 competition to win the chance to represent their country at the J8 Summit 2007. To enter they researched and came up with some of their own solutions to four of the G8 agenda items:

  • Economic development in Africa
  • HIV AIDS
  • Climate change and energy efficiency
  • New challenges for the global economy: Intellectual property rights and corporate social responsibility

On 29th June, 64 young people from the G8 were joined by 10 young people from developing countries in Wismar, Germany for the J8 Summit 2007. Over the course of the week the young people took part in workshops, round table discussions and exercises to help them think through each of the issues on the agenda. There were also lots of opportunities to find out about the host country Germany and about each other's countries.

At the end of their discussions, the J8 delegates wrote a joint communiqué outlining what they thought should be done about the global issues on the G8 agenda. They presented this communiqué to all the G8 leaders at a special live televised meeting on Thursday 7th June.
