A Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), or course management system, is an online platform for delivering learning resources via the web, allowing students at home or at college and distance learners to make use of the same materials. VLEs include tools for communication, assessment, course management and recording results. Using a Virtual Learning Environment, educators can create online courses with rich interaction.
At Shift Learning we create learning resources compatible with the most popular Virtual Learning Environments, including Blackboard, WebCT and Moodle. We also produce SCORM compliant tools which are compatible with an even larger number of platforms and VLEs.
If you are planning to develop eLearning or VLE content you should talk to Shift Learning.
Course Management Systems – Moodle
If you are looking for a more advanced eLearning solution why not try a complete course management system using the open source software Moodle. This is the same software that many schools and universities use as their Virtual Learning Environment and can perfectly match the needs of publishers looking to add value to their printed material. Students receive their own log-in details and benefit from their own course management system that monitors their progress and stores their marks. We can set up quizzes, surveys, forums, glossaries, course material, relevant news feeds and more and as it is open source it does not cost as much as you might think.
CASE STUDY
Begg 9e Economics Workbook, McGraw-Hill
We transferred the printed Begg Economics Workbook into a fully interactive online format for the 9th edition of this textbook. Students are now able to take part in the quizzes and receive immediate feedback on their performance. Their scores are saved allowing them to track and monitor their progress as they work through the exercises. We also commissioned an online graphing tool for use with the workbook that allowed students to draw graphs in many different formats.

For more examples of our companion website work please see the case studies page.
