Methodologies

At Shift Learning, we put the client’s research objectives and decision points at the heart of what we do. We invest time into understanding our clients and offer a bespoke research design to meet their needs.

We currently offer the following methodologies, but are always innovating our offer:

Qualitative research

We offer a full range of qualitative methodologies, including:

  • Focus groups and workshops
  • Online focus groups
  • Online communities
  • Telephone interviews
  • Face to face interviews
  • Online interviews
  • Co-creation workshops
  • Customer journey mapping
  • Ethnographic studies
  • User testing and website evaluations

Our qualitative work frequently makes creative use of projection techniques. These techniques allow our researchers to explore respondents’ subconscious attitudes which allow us to generate additional layers of insight, and aid our clients in further understanding their customer base.

Quantitative research

Shift Learning aims to bring to the education sector the kind of sophisticated approaches more often used by ‘blue chip’ companies. We use a range of advanced quantitative research techniques to help our clients, including:

  • Key driver analysis
  • MaxDiff
  • Conjoint studies
  • Structural equation modelling
  • Regression
  • Factor analysis
  • Cluster analysis and segmentation
  • Perceptual and brand mapping
  • Pricing techniques such as a Gabor Granger and van Westendorp.

Data can be collected via online surveys, postal surveys or field research with our team of face to face interviewers.

Desk research

Many of our projects also involve a desk research element, for example:

  • Competitor analysis
  • Environmental analysis
  • Data analysis
  • Market sizing

We are familiar with a variety of specialist education data sets and sources.

Key respondent groups

We have vast experience in recruiting and speaking with audiences across the sector, often using our own GDPR-compliant panel, but with a good knowledge of other reliable ways of sourcing respondents.

Key respondent groups for us are learners & students, parents, teachers, tutors, careers advisors, educational leaders and decision-makers, academics, society members, employers and education influencers as well as medical consultants, nurses and other professionals.

What we do.

Market Research

We are immersed in education issues every day and researching in this area is what we like to do. We conduct numerous mixed methodology research projects each year and know how to blend qualitative and quantitative work to give you results which are robust and impactful. Our experience with respondents from the education sector enables us to construct really effective research designs, devise great questions and write reports which give you real insights.
