Jane founded Shift Learning in 2002. Since then she has overseen, and managed, various mixed methodology research projects specialising in providing insights into markets, products, services, competitors and various stakeholders. Jane has a strong interest in new methodologies; this, combined with her unique ability to generate new ideas in product development and marketing strategy, means she is adept at delivering recommendations with a strong practical focus on education trends and innovation.
As MD, Jane also manages the team and is responsible for quality and oversees the development of new theoretical and methodological approaches. Jane has a wealth of experience of working in the educational publishing sector, and prior to co-founding Shift Learning, established a reputation as a market-driven publisher with over 10 years’ experience in educational publishing with Palgrave Macmillan, Financial Times Management and Pearson Education.
As online content manager at Pearson Education, Jane played a pivotal role in managing and developing the UK’s foremost programme of higher education websites and online courses, using video, the web and workshops; and worked to forge deeper links between the organisation and the education sector to increase market share.
Jane plays an extremely active and central role in both the market research and publishing worlds. She is a full member of the Market Research Society and ESOMAR; an expert panel member at the Marketing in Academic and Professional Publishing (MAPP) and an associate of the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP). She has also run several market research training courses for the University of Exeter and ALPSP.
Jane enjoys training and development. She has a degree in Economics, a postgraduate diploma in marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing and an MSc in Social Research Methods from the Open University. For her dissertation, Jane used an ethnographic methodology to investigate school choice decisions in London.
In her spare time, Jane enjoys time with her family, travel, music and playing the drums badly, She is writing a screenplay about a landmark study in social research from the 1950s and learning Greek very slowly.
